The Crazy Box

Do you like funny stories? Well if you do, this is the right blog for you. If not, you'd better run now. This story is so crazy, it will probably make you laugh for the rest of your life. We went to the website Wacky Web Tales and typed in reasonable words and clicked a button, and then we found our wacky web tale.

The Box

The doorbell rang. Jason and Taylor raced to the door. There on the doorstep was an enormous, crazy box. What could be inside? They slowly hoisted the box into the game room. Taylor firmly put her arm close to the box. She thought she heard a voice whisper, “Cool!!”

“Hurry. Open the box!” screamed Jason. To their amazement, Jim Carrey leaped out of the box and started singing “Twist.” There was nothing else to do but sing along.

Well that is it, if you are not laughing you probably like funny stories. If you are, go see a doctor (just kidding, hee, hee)!

Welcome to Spiderworld

Tarantulabig   Do you want to keep a tarantula as a pet? Do you want to hold one of the most hairy spiders ever?  Well if you are freaked out about this you probably have arachnophobia.

To get rid of arachnophobia, the best way is to get up close to them. But how do you that if you are terrified of spiders?

Welcome to Spiderworld! It’s a virtual-reality experience created by scientists at the University of Washington in Seattle.

The experience lets arachnophobes face increasingly close calls with virtual spiders. Then you must face the ultimate test: reaching out to grab a virtual tarantula while you are really touching a fake furry one.

Before this virtual-reality progress wasn’t out, people weren’t able to get 5 feet (1.5 meters) of a real tarantula in a glass cage. Now people manage to get within 6 inches (15 cm.) of it. Now that’s progress!

~Why do you think people are afraid of spiders?~

Zack's Precious Idioms

Have you ever read the Idiom Blog? If you haven't yet click this hyperlink. If so then enjoy this blog.

One rainy day I was stuck inside my house doing homework. "4x9=36, 23-13=10, 123+321=444" It was raining cats and dogs outside. I looked at my lantern that had my watch on it. It said 1:00 PM. Perfect timing! I ran to my mom's bedroom door. She was sick as a dog. She had a 101 degree fever.

"Mom" I said "Yes...snfffff..." she replied in a sniffly tone of voice. "Can I spend the night with Richard?. "What about my medicine?" she said in a sad voice. "I got it for you." "Well I need company while I'm sick." I then realized I had to go easy with my mom. She was sick and I had to be as nice to her as possible because you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. I said "I will stay and take care of you." "Thank you. ' she said.

I had to help her feel better so I went to a nearby college to learn medicine study. I made a good cure for what she had: pneumonia. So I went home as fast as I could go. I gave it to her. It made her feel better than a happy puppy. the next day she was better. But something happened while I was out in the rain. Sniff! ACTHoooooo!

Comments and Me

Have you ever been told something that made you feel great? Well I have. Here is one of my comments from "Resoulutions in Writing."

Hello, Zachary!

Seems you are well on your way to keeping your New Year's Resolution with this very post! The JavaScript Word Count told me that it was 221 words long. If you wrote like this every day, you would soon have 50,000 words, which is novel-length. Imagine that, a blog with a novel-length. How would you enjoy that? Of course you would get so much good raw material for your writing and be able to record your experiences, reactions, thoughts and feelings. All these will help you get an A+ for writing.

Being open with your thoughts is a laudable goal. But it has its consequences. Already your Longer Life post is getting comments because it appeals to many people. And also you might have to moderate comments. You don't want your hundred comments to be spam or otherwise invaluable. However, they do have a voice, which is every bit as valuable as your voice.

When you show the teacher your best work you are doing yourself and your friends a favor. You are raising the bar of what is possible. What do you hope to do at the end of this school year? You will have many teachers to show your best work to, then, and you can't play favorites with them.

My resolutions are to respect other people, to treat the earth with respect and to respect myself. To see beauty and justice and peace in the world wherever I may find it. To keep on learning and growing.

What newspaper articles are you thinking of looking at? I think you might have a look at Wikinews, where you can even write articles yourself! They are always looking for more e-journalists, and I think your work will fit the bill there. Also use all the great sources you've collected, and evaluate them critically. That element separates the B+/A- writer from the A+ writer, and makes blogs memorable and interesting to the reader. It also shows that you have a strong and independent voice.
http://en.wikinews.org I would like to hear more about the Legislature when you have time. That would be a great 100-word post with 50-comments.With achieving the 100 words goal, it's important to be concise. I think a story that covers the 5 Ws (see Jose-Juan's resolutions, if you haven't already) has about 6 sentences. Vary sentence length too. When you work in such a short space, words and how you put them together are so important!

This one was by Bronwyn G. She thinks of the kindest and best comments.    She has helped me with my writing a lot.   She gave me some good tips on how I could complete my resolutions.

These comments have taught me to be a good writer. They have encouraged me to do what I need to do. I think comments are like a value that makes you feel good inside. There is no better felling then getting a good comment. I don't know why people lay off the comments. They have helped me in becoming a better person: being humble, being calm, don't hurt people's feelings when posting a comment.

Well I hope you enjoyed my blog. See you later!     Who is your role model?

Fuel is the way of the past. Turkey guts are the way of the future!

Turkeywastebig_2 Can turkey guts turn into fuel? Well researchers are developing a new technology that could turn your holiday turkey into fuel. In this past Thanksgiving, people have gobbled down about 45 million turkeys! And that’s just in

America

. Researchers are working to create a new technology that turns leftovers from the turkey into fuel.

CWT (Changing World Technologies) believes that turkey guts could be changed into car oil! How could it be changed into oil? The company uses a process called thermodeploymerization (TDP).             TDP means that waste-like turkey guts-is ground up. Then it is mixed up with water. The mixture is then heated up to about 260 degrees Celsius (that’s about 500 degrees Fahrenheit)-more than twice as hot as boiling water! The mixture is then compressed and cooked again. After time, this process turns the turkey guts into oil and other substances. It may help with recycling problems too.

However NYPIRG (New York Public Interest Research Group) thinks the process won’t work. Other environmentalists, however, believe that the technology could help the environment-and the

U.S.

CWT also plans to get fuel form other stuff too. Here are some of them: chickens, cows, hogs, onions, and cheese. So next time you take a bite into a big juicy turkey, remember you could be taking a bite into a new fuel technology!

Do you think the process will work? Why?

The Idiom Blog

We are learning about idioms in weblog class. Here are some examples of what I've came up with.

  1. "If we lose this baseball game I'll eat my hat!" said Derrick, as confident as could be.
  2. "Angel! Answer me! Cat got your tongue?
  3. "Cool it!" I yelled to my friends. "Stop arguing!"
  4. Angel has been eating his parents out of  house and home. He's grown 5 inches!
  5. My mom was as mad as a wet hen when I didn't clean my room.
  6. Ever since I got bad grades in school I've been in the doghouse.
  7. That pizza hit the spot!
  8. When I lost my 5 dollar bill I hit the roof.
  9. The CRCT test is in the bag!
  10. My heart was in my mouth when I didn't do my homework.

Do you know what an idiom is? If so, great! Explain what an idiom is. If not, don't feel discouraged. Give a wild guess.

De' ja vu

Have you ever forgotten anything important? Once at Georgia State University’s Technology Night I forgot something. It was my webloging folder. I freaked out; I thought I wasn’t going to be able to do my best. I said “Awww…man! Now I can’t type my weblog.” But my mom said “It’s okay. The words will come.” That’s exactly what happened too. De’ ja vu!

But I did better anyway. Well at first it was hard to type from scratch but after a little while I started typing like a mad writer, I typed so much my brain couldn’t keep track. I was really going at it; good grief!

Pretty soon I had finished my weblog and I was ready to go. But I got more experience on writing by scratch and I am good at it now!

I am glad that I forgot the folder now! The lessons I learned are making sure that I double check for my things and don’t depend on my parents and to stay calm and things will turn out okay.

The blogs were Backbreaking Backpack Blues and Resolutions in Writing. Well, I’m closing now but I’ll make an even better post next time!

An Unforgettable Day

Gsu_leadership_appreciation_night_021 I experienced a great thing last Tuesday. I went to Technology Night at Georgia State University along with Jose-Juan and it was fun. The first thing I did was responded to a couple of comments on my weblog. Then me and my mom went to get a coke, it was old fashioned by the way. I was amazed of how gigantic Georgia State University is. After I finished one of my blogs I went to get my caricature done and it looked exactly like me too! When I returned Mrs. Davis brought me in a quiet room and asked me a few questions. It was neat how she recorded my voice; the device she did it with was some sort of digital recorder. I saw people in suits, I guessed they were legislators , but I never found out. There was this one guy who was just hanging around the laptops me and Jose-Juan were typing at. He was wearing a black suit and he had a name tag. I don't remember his name though. The food was great, I wish I could eat more but sadly, I can't. It was fun but at 6:30 PM me and my parents had to leave (my dad ate more than a hungry elephant). We left the room then went out the door, I was tired out by the time we were leaving and happy to be going home but we were actually not going strait to my house. We were going to Hobby Lobby. So I said goodbye to the city, got in the car and headed back home.

How cool do you think Georgia State University sounded?

Back Breaking Backpack Blues

I am going to tell you how backpacks can give you shoulder and back pains. While wearing your backpack have you ever had the feeling when your heart beats fast and your shoulders are hurting. If so, take off your backpack. I've had that feeling before. It really hurts, but I just take the backpack off. Scientists believe that heavy backpacks are the reason for shoulder and back pains at a young age. Scientists are also thinking of future backpack designs: wider straps, and advanced pockets. Here are 2 tips to stay backpack safe: keep heavier books in the back pocket, and get smaller note books.

Do you have some tips for backpack safety? Share some.

Resolutions in Writing

I am writing a post about my new years resolutions. I have a lot of them but if I tried to write all of them in one blog I would take the whole page. But they are: to create a post with over 50 comments, to make a post everyone in the world would read, and to make a post with over 100 words. That isn't all of them but I could not possibly write all of them. But the big one, the awesome resolution is to get an A+ in writing.

I am going to achieve my goals, the way I will get 50 comments on a post is by writing a very good blog with no errors. I will make a 100 word post by paying attention to my newspaper article and writing like MAD on my computer, and I will achieve getting everyone in the world to read my post by just being open with my thoughts and showing the world that I have a voice! I will pay more attention in class and show the teacher my best work. That's how I will get an A+ in writing. Well, I'm finished with my new years resolutions but remember to achieve your goals and have a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

What are your new years resolutions?
