We are learning about idioms in weblog class. Here are some examples of what I've came up with.
- "If we lose this baseball game I'll eat my hat!" said Derrick, as confident as could be.
- "Angel! Answer me! Cat got your tongue?
- "Cool it!" I yelled to my friends. "Stop arguing!"
- Angel has been eating his parents out of house and home. He's grown 5 inches!
- My mom was as mad as a wet hen when I didn't clean my room.
- Ever since I got bad grades in school I've been in the doghouse.
- That pizza hit the spot!
- When I lost my 5 dollar bill I hit the roof.
- The CRCT test is in the bag!
- My heart was in my mouth when I didn't do my homework.
Do you know what an idiom is? If so, great! Explain what an idiom is. If not, don't feel discouraged. Give a wild guess.
Isn't an idiom a phrase that doesn't mean the same as its separate or constitutent words?
And they're usually unique in foreign languages, a bit like proverbs are.
