Over The the Fall Break I helped my dad build a porch. When we started we had to knock the old one down. We knocked the previous porch to the ground by destroying the support, but first we took the roof off. After that we broke the cement blocks with anything we could find. I got to use a sledge hammer.
When that was done we put some new support beams up. Then we connected them with wood. For that I needed to climb up a ladder and hold the wood in place, while my dad nailed it in place. Then we had to built the structure for the roof. That part was easy because some people stood on a wall. But the other side was hard because we had to use the ladder or pile things on top of other things.
Probably by next week it will be ready. But first my dad will have to buy some things that look like black squares that go on the roof so it wont rot. Next we will get on top of the roof and nail them down. Next we will have to take the temporarily support beams off. So when that is completely done we will have a new porch.
I just liked it when I got to break the cement blocks.
What exciting thing did you do over the break?
I will donate money

I bet your dad was so glad to have such a good helper with this project. We are about to start building a house in the next couple of weeks. I am excited to watch the workers and learn how it is done. Would you like to be a builder one day?
