Celebrating JHH Students!

Our first Student of the Month Reception was a BLAST!  One student from each PreK - 5th grade class was selected by their teacher as "Student of the Month".  Each student celebrated with a cupcake, ice cream, and juice.  Then Mrs. Hooper read the wonderful comments written by the teachers and gave them an awesome "goody" bag!

Congratulations to our Students of the Month!  One student was selected from each classroom to be highlighted based on his/her hard work, effort, and exemplary character traits. 

Happy Halloween!

Our annual Kindergarten Halloween Parade was a blast!  The kindergarteners and their teachers were all dressed up for us!  I think the teachers had just as much fun as the students! Share with us your thoughts and experiences of Halloween.

A Bubble Blowing Party

331 students participated in the Perfect Attendance Party for the month of September!  I heard many of you say that this was the BEST party ever as you each got a piece of bubblegum and had a bubble blowing party!

Mickey Mouse Day

Our Kindergarteners celebrated the letter "M" as they sported around their Mickey Mouse ears, played Mickey Mouse Bingo, and made Mickey Mouse cookies!  Even Mrs. Hooper resembled Minnie Mouse as she walked through the halls with Minnie Mouse ears! 

An Inspiration to Us All

All of us were inspired by Lisa's poem that she read about Rosa Parks over the intercom.  She also read it to our board members last month at their meeting.  Now that takes courage.  Here is what Lisa recited from memory with great poise:

My Mom and I wrote a poem about Rosa Parks because we believe that she is an inspiration to all.

Rosa Parks was a very brave lady.  She did want to be an enslave lady.  She set what was right.  She didn't put up a fight.  She didn't take the fall, but she won justice for us all.  She inspired me to be strong and to keep holding on.  Rosa Parks - A Woman of Courage.

JHH Students Come Through for Hurricane Katrina Survivors

J. H. House Elementary School students are working hard to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina and the PTA is coordinating this effort with the students.

The students are collecting loose change from each classroom and the contributions will be donated to the Salvation Army to assist with relief efforts.  Students are also collecting teddy bears for the children affected by the hurricane.  Rebecca, a fourth grade student, came up with the idea of donating teddy bears and the number of donated teddies is growing each day.

The students at JHH are very concerned about the children who have been affected by the hurricane and the students are reaching out to those children and sending them their hugs through the teddy bears!

Attendance Party

The parties begin!  342 students attended our party for having perfect attendance through the month of August!  I think that may be a record.  We enjoyed the pretty weather and rainbow popsicles in celebration!  Come every day in September so you can attend the next party. 

10,000 Steps

Congratulations to Jose and Manuel for walking 10,000 steps!  They used their new pedometers our Physical Education program received from our General Mills grant last year!  Way to go boys!  Keep stepping to the beat of a healthy heart!

2005-2006 Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Mrs. Dugas who was recently named JHH Teacher of the Year!  The faculty celebrated the announcement with cake and thoughtful words.  Read some of the reasons why Mrs. Dugas was selected by her colleagues:

Mrs. Dugas shows a passion for her work.  She is extremely competent.  Her expertise of the Kindergarten curriculum is phenemoenal.  She has a marvelous ability to diagnose a student's ability or need and fulfill that demand with her keen wisdom.  She is more than willing to share her ideas with her colleagues.  I have been the beneficiary of her generous nature and appreciate how she so willingly helped me with my questions.  Her technological skills are outstanding as well.  J.H. House has been fortunate to have had Mrs. Dugas with us these past eight years.

She takes all children where they are academically and emotionally and moves them beyond expectations. Her classes are extremely well-ran, happy, and full of learning.

Mrs. Dugas goes above and beyond always.  She is talented, dedicated, and puts in all the extra hours to help her class succeed and rise to be the very best.

She continually looks to challenge her students.  She uses every bit of time with them, working with them.  She brings in extra books and materials to do her job.  She maintains high standards for herself and her students.  She is a pillar for the grade level.
