Mrs. Bresson's 2nd grade class wrote me a wonderful letter last week. It made my day! I know a lot of the boys and girls at JHH will agree with what they had to say. Dear Ms. Roper, Thank you for letting us use the pedometers in PE class. The pedometer helps us to count our steps. We are glad that you taught us how to use them. Our free time helps us to get even more steps. We can't wait to reach 10,000 steps and get a necklace. I love their letter because they were able to tell me so many things that they remembered about the pedometers and they are excited about getting to that magical 10,000 step mark. Did you realize that there is a scientific reason behind the number 10,000 as our goal? The goal of taking 10,000 steps a day is roughly equivalent to the Surgeon General’s recommendation of accumulating 30 minutes of physical activity at least 3 days a week. That is enough exercise to help reduce your risk for disease so that you can lead a longer, healthier life. Remember that you will not get 10,000 steps in one PE class, but I bet that you DO take that many steps during the day. Some of you have gotten over 3,500 steps during class! Now let me share some wonderful news...157 boys and girls have already reached 10,000 steps at JHH!
I hope that you are all learning a lot and enjoying the pedometers. Now let's go get some more feet!
I think that was sweet. I can`t wait to get my second foot.
