On Monday Katrina caused immense damage as it hit Louisiana with 140 miles per hour winds. It also moved into Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida. They estimated that Katrina killed 110 people but they say that it could rise to more than 200. Crews are working to find shelter for people in need. Experts say that it could cost more than $26 million dollars to recover from Katrina's damage. People who were affected from hurricane Katrina will receive money from the federal Government.
Walloping winds slammed Florida's coast on Sunday. The hurricane destroyed homes and left hundreds of thousands of people without electricity. The three storms that came before Dennis were named Arlene, Bret, and Cindy but none of them had fast enough wind to become a hurricane. There has been 11 hurricanes that had hit in just this one year.
I think that is really sad that some people lost some of their family and their homes because of hurricane Katrina. Would you like to learn more about Hurricane Karina?
Although all of the footage seen on the news, internet, and newspapers has been heart-breaking and hard to watch, I enjoy learning more about the devastating storm that has destroyed the lives and homes of so many people. I want to learn more about the cause of the storm and how we can ease the human suffering in future times of crisis.

Your writing really held my interest - good use of adjectives. I love the word "walloping". I could just see the wind. You made it come alive for me with the words you chose. I want to know if the teachers will be able to find work elsewhere? What else would you like to know about Hurricane Katrina?
