CWT (Changing World Technologies) believes that turkey guts could be changed into car oil! How could it be changed into oil? The company uses a process called thermodeploymerization (TDP). TDP means that waste-like turkey guts-is ground up. Then it is mixed up with water. The mixture is then heated up to about 260 degrees Celsius (that’s about 500 degrees Fahrenheit)-more than twice as hot as boiling water! The mixture is then compressed and cooked again. After time, this process turns the turkey guts into oil and other substances. It may help with recycling problems too.
However NYPIRG (New York Public Interest Research Group) thinks the process won’t work. Other environmentalists, however, believe that the technology could help the environment-and the U.S.
CWT also plans to get fuel form other stuff too. Here are some of them: chickens, cows, hogs, onions, and cheese. So next time you take a bite into a big juicy turkey, remember you could be taking a bite into a new fuel technology!
Do you think the process will work? Why?
