Whats up ! I am going to tell you about swans. Every body knows that a swan is a pretty bird but do you know that they start as an ugly duck? Like perhaps baby swans when they hatch they weigh about 6 ounces. That's the same weight like a baseball. An adult swan weigh up to 26 pounds. Some swans even carry their young on their backs. The baby swans are call cygnets. A cygnets grow more slowly than other swimming birds do. Their parents help them find food and stay safe. A cygnet stays with their parents for 2 years. Swans chooses mates when they are 2 to 3 years old. A swan begins its courtship by displaying or showing off to another swan. They display while facing each other. The male swan usually chooses the place and gathers the materials for the nest. Then the female uses the plants to build a nest that may be more than 9 feet wide. After laying her eggs the female sit on her eggs and keep them warm. The male stays close by to guard the nest. Sometimes a male sit on the nest while the female feeds. After 30 to 35 days tiny cheep can be heard from inside the eggs. One by one the eggs begin to hatch. That's the cycle of the swan. Whats your favorite swan and why?
