To Be or Not To Be the Top Turkey

Download TurkeyAlive.htm Since Thanksgiving is coming up, I had my students pretend they were turkeys, the famed centerpiece of a Thanksgiving meal!  They had to write and persuade people not to eat them.   We first watched a funny clip of a turkey singing "I Will Survive" to help us think about some of the humorous parts of being a turkey. (You can veiw the clip by clicking on the TurkeyAlive link.)   Here are some of the things my third-grade turkeys had to say:

Please Don't Eat Me!

If you're going to celebrate Turkey Day, celebrate me instead of killing me and eating me.  If you do eat me, you will have a bad day.  I will train myself to do some magic tricks.  When I am trained, I will make you into a turkey and mee into a human.  Then, I could chop your neck!

Alejandra

Live Or Get Killed

You don't want to eat me.  Would you want to have my head for Thanksgiving Day?  Besides, I'm all skin and bones!  If you don't eat me, I will do anything for you, ANYTHING!  Remember, don't get your knives or your pitchforks.  Don't eat me, please!

Dylan

I Will Live Forever

Please don't eat me.  I will work and make you everything.  Whatever you tell me to do, I will do.  Don't eat me please.  Eat some of my other Turkey friends instead of me.

Jesus

Please Don't Eat Me!

Please don't eat me because I'm a turkey and sometimes they're skinny.  I'm a little turkey.  Please don't cut my neck.  I'll do eanything for you.  I'll even be your pet.  Have you decided?  Just look at me.  Don't you see my face?  I'm too skinny, and my face is all feathery.  I have a little bit of hair.  I'm too young.  Eat my older, plumper friends instead.

Sol

Should we eat these turkeys?  Did they persuade you enough to spare their life?

Top Trip

Cnn_2005_005 The third grade took a trip to the CNN Center on Thursday, November 10th.  Our trip will help to enhance our daily viewing and mind-mapping of the show.  We learned how the news was made and got to see a live taping of Headline News among many other behind-the-scenes details .  If you need to know how to make someone or something dissappear, we now know the tricks the weather reporters use!  Mr. Carl Azuz, the writer for CNN Student News, took time out to meet with our school and answer many of our questions.  He's the voice behind the "Shoutout" and the "Word to the Wise." Perhaps the most important part of his job is to write all the words the reporters say each day.  Whew!  That's a lot of writing!  Maybe one day some of our students will use their writing skills and have a job like him!  Our CNN trip was tops!  Cnn_2005_006_2 Cnn_2005_008 Cnn_2005_014
