Last Chapter

It’s hard to say good-bye. Or at least stop weblogging is the hardest part. I really don’t want to stop weblogging but I have to.

When I first started my writing wasn’t that good. I never even used the six traits of writing then. If it wasn’t for Mrs. Meeler my writing would have never improved.

Thanks! That thanks was for Mrs. Meeler. What to know why? Well, because she is the one who let me have a chance to even be in this group even when I tried to quit. But that’s a different.

I would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Hooper who alowed us to miss two hours of class just to come to weblogs every Thursday. Especially for asking the school board because if she didn’t we wouldn’t have even had a weblog group.

Missing What? Why?

What I’m going to miss the most are my friends, the teachers, and the activities at school. But most importantly, I will miss the school it’s self.

Why miss the school? Well because I will be going to a different school. It may take me a while to get used to middle school.

I really won’t be used to EdwardsMiddle Schoolas much as J.H. House.

I think that J.H House is the best school ever and that will never change. I have gone to this school for 6 years. This is most of my life so far.

Hopefully middle school is like this school. I’m hoping for it to have great teachers and great during or after school activities.

If you’re in the 5th grade, what will you miss the most, why?

Explain to Me the Six Trait of Writing

Amanda: What are the six traits of writing?

Sarah: It is what you use to edit your writing.

Lisa: The six traits of writing are Ideas and Content, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions.

Sarah: Conventions are the smallest but most important details of your writing. They are the spaces between your words, your capitalization, correct spelling, and correct punctuation, main idea, and correct expression.

Amanda: I still don’t understand!

Lisa: Organization makes sure everything goes together. Both details and a topic are necessary in your writing. Correct sequence is important as well as a good beginning. Everything should happen in a mannerly order.

Sarah: Your voice should sound like something you would say. Be sure to speak your opinion and keep it interesting.

Lisa: Sentence fluency makes sure you use enough sentences, complete sentences, and correct sentences. It also makes sure that the story sounds real and as someone reads it aloud that it sounds smooth.

Sarah: knowing the topic and that your paper is clear is just as important a shaving a dialogue so that the reader understands what you are talking about. This is ideas and content.

Lisa: using exciting words and vivid vocabulary keeps the reader’s attention; that’s what word choice is all about.

If you didn’t understand the six traits, do you know now? If yes, what is does it mean?

Malls Compared to 6 Traits

What I’m doing is comparing the six traits of writing to the mall. So here it is:

Ideas and Content - major stores

Organization  how the clothes are organized on the rack

Voice what its appearance is

Word Choice  the accessories in it

Sentence Fluency some purses are small, some are big

Conventions – all the small hair clips

Is this true, how?

Six Traits of Writing

The six traits of writing are what you usually use when you write. They are Ideas and Content, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions. These you usually use when you proofread your writing. If you say that you don’t and you ask your self questions to your self then you do.

Ideas and Content

When you use ideas and content you usually ask yourself is your paper is put together right like these questions:

  • Does my paper make sense?
  • Does my writing paint a picture in my reader’s mind?
  • Do I have good details?
  • Will this grad my reader’s interest?
  • Do I have good paragraphs?
  • Do I have enough details to express what I’m saying?

Organization

You use organization to make sure everything well put together. These might help you with your organization:

  • Is everything in order?
  • Does my paper flow?
  • Do I have a good beginning and ending?
  • Does my topic make sense?
  • Does my paper have the correct sequence?

Voice

Voice is when your writing sound like it is something you would say not what someone else would say. In order for your voice to be heard you can’t copy anyone’s work that’s plagiarizing and illegal. You may use these questions:

  • Is my paper interesting?
  • Is this really my opinion?
  • How will my readers feel?
  • Is my paper in my own words?
  • Do I feel like my readers heard my voice?

Word Choice

Word choice is very important especially if you use boring words such as:

  • fun
  • happy
  • sad
  • mad
  • tired

Those types of words will bore your readers you can change them up like:

  • fun to exciting
  • happy to cheery
  • sad to depressed
  • mad to furious
  • tired to weary

Sentence Fluency

Sentence fluency is to see if your sentences flow together. The whole reason we even use it is so our story doesn’t sound like a kindergartener’s writing.

  • Do I have enough sentences?
  • Do my sentences sound choppy?
  • Are any of my sentences redundant?
  • Do my sentences make sense together?
  • Do my sentences have correct punctuations?

Conventions

Conventions are pretty much the little things but still important.

  • Do have spaces everywhere there needs to be?
  • Are the words spelled correctly?
  • Is my writing understandable?
  • Are punctuations correctly the way I want them?

Do I have a main idea

Not to long ago I interviewed my friend Graciela. I asked her questions so I could get to know her more than I already know her.

Marisela: When were you born?

Graciela: April 13, 1995

Marisela: What career would you like to attend?

Graciela: A Veterinarian

Marisela: Why do you choose that?

Graciela: Because I love animals

Marisela: How many brothers and sisters do you have?

Graciela: 1 brother and 1 sister

Marisela: How many friends do you have?

Graciela: A lot that I can’t count

Marisela: If you had a million dollars what would you do with them?

Graciela: I would give them to charity, because I can make my own money

Marisela: Do you have any pets?

Graciela: Yes; five cats

Marisela: What are your hobbies?

Graciela: Being with my cats and reading

Marisela: Do you like school?

Graciela: Yes and no

Marisela: Is education important to you?

Graciela: Yes; because it gets you ready for your future career

During the interveiw we were always talking kind of serius. The interveiw went great and I would love to do it again.
